Hundreds thanked the Virginia UPS driver for the deliveries, kindness: “It makes you feel like a friend”

A heartfelt gesture was sent to a Virginia UPS driver last week.

Anthony Gaskins was moved to tears when members of a community in Chesterfield County came together to thank him for the record number of daily deliveries – over 180 – during the coronavirus crisis.

“I wanted to personally thank him for how much he helped me feel welcome when I moved during a pandemic. He was terribly lonely and was always the highlight of my day. Mentioning this to a few people and the response I received was all I needed to know I was not alone, “Hallsley’s neighbor Patty Friedman wrote in an email sharing FOX 13.

To show how much his hard work meant to his neighbors, hundreds lined the road that Gaskins leads with signs and banners thanking him for everything he does.

“Arriving by bicycle, on foot and in more than 75 cars, hundreds of Hallsley residents lined the road and waited for Anthony to turn the corner,” she wrote. “A humble man, he had to be deceived, but in the end he slowly drove his truck on the road, while children and adults picked up the signs, shouted his name, honked their horns and rang bells “.

Those who proved to be supportive and grateful to the UPS driver explained that Gaskins always “delivers our packages with a wave and a smile.”

“Anthony always smiles, shakes hands and goes back and forth to deliver packages carefully,” wrote a neighbor, FOX 13 reported. “It makes you feel like a friend when you see him. He brightens our day, or every time he picks up a package, which is common in our home! He stands out from ALL the other delivery drivers and we love it!

Another neighbor shared an emotional story, writing that their six-year-old daughter “has not seen a set of grandparents for more than a year” and many of the items Gaskins delivers come from grandparents, while not they are able to be physically together.

“The joy that the packages bring is worth it. Thank you for always delivering them with a kind smile and a friendly wave!” the person wrote.
