It can be annoying to live macOS dual-platform lifespan and Windows – or even “Apple and all that is not Apple”. But If you save your passwords to the Keychain, then upload them to iCloud to sync with your Apple devices, you will now be able to extend this functionality to Windows systems. (A kind of.)
Apple has released a new browser extension that lets you drag Keychain passwords into Chrome (and with a small tweak, Edge Chromium). You’ll also be able to sync any new passwords you create in these browsers back to iCloud Keychain and then you can use them on your connected Apple devices.
Yes, this means that Firefox users are left in danger of it, aAnd it also means that you can access passwords only through the browser; Keychain has not yet been incorporated into a good icloud-dot-com, nor is there an Apple application that you can use on Windows, as you might 1Password or LastPass.
To get started in Chrome, launch your browser and navigate to Chrome web store to grab ICloud words extension. Install it, then go to the installation iCloud for Windows if you haven’t already. You will need version 12 of the application for the extension to do anything. Apple appears to have removed the update from the Microsoft Store at this time, but may have already made the update last week (or you may be able to update it soon).

I don’t have one, but I know you’ll need to check that password box for your browser extension to sync passwords back and forth with iCloud. So if you already have version 12.0 of Windows iCloud – or when it does appear – make sure you check this option or your extension won’t do anything. Besides, working with the iCloud Passwords extension is as easy as any other password manager; you should have no problems there.
However, you may experience a problem if you try to synchronize the extension with iCloud for Windows when using Edge Chromium. The extension installs very well, but you’ll need to indicate that you’re syncing with Internet Explorer, not Chrome, which may require you to adjust the “Bookmarks” setting. I will test this as soon as I receive the updated version of the application, but this is the quick solution that I read and that seems to have worked for others. Pretend Edge Chromium is Internet Explorer, not Chrome, although it has much more in common with the latter.
