A California judge has certified a class action lawsuit against Apple for the design of the damage-prone butterfly keyboard, included in the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models made between 2015 and 2019. The case claims that Apple knowingly sold the fragile keyboards in despite numerous complaints and requests for repairs for broken keyboards that do not respond – and although you still can’t join the process, you can do so right now to help build the case against the company.
In accordance with MacBook Pro Keyboard Litigation website, the class action lawsuit covers “all persons who have purchased, other than for resale, in California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington or Michigan, an Apple MacBook from any of the 2015-2017 model years, an Apple MacBook Pros from any of the 2016-2019 model years (except for the 16 [inch] MacBook Pro released in November 2019) or an Apple MacBook Air from any of the 2018-2019 model years. ”
The legal team is seeking national certification, which would extend the class action to include all U.S. customers who have purchased one of the MacBook models listed in the lawsuit. This is good news for MacBook or MacBook Pro owners who have struggled with faulty Butterfly keyboards, but it’s important to remember that this decision simply means that the process can continue. The judge has not ruled in any way and there are no solutions or solutions yet.
That being said, if you’re having trouble with the butterfly keyboard, you can send your feedback via a survey on the site. The survey is open to all US customers who have purchased a MacBook or MacBook Pro, even if you are not specifically covered by the class action lawsuit. You can fill out a single form if you have purchased more than one MacBook or MacBook Pro, and you do not need to provide proof of purchase (although the questionnaire asks if you have one).
Please note that completing the survey does not mean that you are in the class action process or that you are represented by Girard Sharp’s attorneys, nor do you qualify in advance for any compensation based on the outcome of the process. However, completing the form can help support the case against Apple and its defective butterfly keyboard and can help expand class action to include more customers.
