If you want to export your Facebook posts for any reason (I’ll let you decide why), you can now throw them and your notes on a Google Doc, Blogger, or WordPress.

Personally, I don’t need to keep all the stupid things I’ve said on Facebook for the last 16 years, but I’ll show you how to export your Facebook life to Google Docs. From there, you can do whatever you want with your memories. (We recommend that you download your digital life to a folder on your computer, where you keep all your other important data that has been done regularly, then never forget it again.)

To get started, drag on Facebook and visit settings page, then navigate to Your information on Facebook section. There, you’ll want to click “View” next to the new one “Transfer a copy of your information” the line. Remember the expression that: You are not moving or deleting old posts, simply copying them elsewhere. To get rid of them completely, you will either have to go through them manually and delete them (ha!), Or delete your entire Facebook account.

On the next screen, select Posts (or Notes). You can’t choose and choose which Facebook posts or notes you want to transfer; everything you’ve created on your Facebook profile (though not the posts you’ve made in groups or other pages) will be copied over. Also note that this will only be copied your posts, not posts that friends have made on your Facebook page – big difference.

Choose your destination (Google Docs or WordPress / Jetpack) and click Next. As always, you will need to log in to the service and grant Facebook various permissions:

And once you’ve done that, your request will join the queue. Yes, it is not an instant transfer type, but my transfer request is being processed right now and I assume I will receive an email and / or a Facebook notification when it is okay to leave.

My fingers crossed that I didn’t have 10,000 new documents in Google Drive to deal with all of a sudden. While you wait, you can come back and repeat the process for your Facebook notes. If you feel ambitious, you can even get started copying photos to another service as well.
