How much snow can you expect on Monday

DETROIT – Welcome to Sunday night, Motown!

Sunday night we have a fresh blanket of fluffy snow over Detroit and southeast Michigan. Many areas got an inch or less, but Oakland County and some neighborhoods got 1 to 8 inches. Even a small amount of snow can cause huge problems, so be careful on streets and sidewalks on Sunday evenings.

Scattered bouts disappear after Sunday meals. Most of Monday will be dry during the day, after that there will be more snow for Monday evening and Tuesday.

Sunday evening will be cloudy with scattered gusts of wind and cold temperatures in the upper 20s.

Sunday evening will be mostly to partly cloudy and cold. Nighttime lows are in the higher teens and low 20s.

There is likely to be more snow from Monday to Tuesday. A separate low-pressure area travels south to southern Michigan. Cold air stays in place as the storm intensifies, collecting moisture and throwing it into southeast Michigan in the form of light to heavy snowfall. Afternoon temperatures will be in the low 30s on both Monday and Tuesday.

The first snowflakes arrive on Monday afternoon. Snow showers become more intense and widespread early Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Tuesday continues to snow with light snow on and off after sunrise and the rest of the day.

All Detroiters need their snow shovels. Some southeastern Michiganders will spend more time clearing snow than others. The heaviest snow falls from Detroit to Ann Arbor south to the Michigan-Ohio border. Starting on Sunday, the higher snow totals are expected to reach 3 to 5 inches between Monday and Tuesday. A lighter amount of snow – 1 to 4 inches – will fall from Eight Mile Road north to I-69 and the inch area.

Remember: predicted snow totals are subject to change, so stay tuned.

Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are getting sunnier and colder. Daytime temperatures are in the mid and above 20. Nighttime and early morning lows will be in the teens with sometimes almost no chills.
