How did the persecution that ended with the death of three police officers happen?

Extensive persecution culminated in the deaths of three officers yesterday and another was injured, but what were the events that led to this tragic outcome?

It all happened around 3:30 p.m., when two city officials came to investigate a car accident near Roberto Clemente Boulevard in Carolina, Antonio López, a designated police commissioner, told reporters this morning.

“When they approach the vehicles, this individual catches them and starts shooting at them, one of the municipal policemen falls on the sidewalk and there begins the pursuit towards the Baldorioty area”he said before entering a meeting at headquarters with the 13 area commanders.

During this incident, Carolina’s municipal agent, Luis Salamán Conde, died.

When the chase against PR-3, known as the La 65 infantry, began, the individual stole a motor boat, according to San Juan area lieutenant colonel Rolando Trinidad. At one point during the trip, the fugitive armed robbery of a white Hyundai Accent that belonged to a woman. It was not specified where.

Near the Isla Verde area, where the Embassy Suites hotel is located, the killer continued to shoot until he attacked two other policemen who later died in hospital and another policeman injured in the leg.

The other two police officers killed were Officer Luis Marrero Díaz and Municipal Police Officer Eliezer Hernández Cartagena.

Subsequently, the murderer abandoned the stolen car on Jupiter Street and entered the Luis Llorens Torres residence on foot. Hundreds of police officers occupied the residence last night and early this morning under surveillance by the fugitive.

A few hours later, the body of a person with a description similar to a person of interest was found in Santurce, although the perpetrator has not yet been identified.
