HOUSTON – Deshaun Watson, the Texans quarterback, on Monday asked fans who planned a protest on his behalf to cancel the event “for reasons of public safety.”
“Although I am humiliated, I demand that anyone organizing the march cancel for reasons of public safety,” Watson said in a tweet. “Covid is spreading at a high rate and I don’t want any fans to be unnecessarily exposed to the infection.”

The protest seems to be related to Watson’s dissatisfaction with the team after the trial he hired general manager Nick Caserio.
The event was organized Saturday night by a Texan fan who posted on Twitter“I left on Monday, I went to protest in front of the NRG. If we get enough people to do these things, changes could happen.”
The event, first marketed as a protest, but later turned into a “rally”, was scheduled for Monday at 11:00 local time. The plan was for Texan fans to eat at Lefty’s, the Watson-owned cheese franchise in the minority, and then walk half a mile to NRG Stadium for a “peaceful protest.”
