Houston Health delivered nearly 3,600 doses at COVID-19 Minute Maid Park vaccination clinic

HOUSTON – The Houston Department of Health administered nearly 3,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccine Saturday at Minute Maid Park. The city provided another 1,000 meetings in the middle of the day, which were quickly booked.

“The new meetings took about 30 minutes,” the department wrote on Twitter. “We will post additional vaccination opportunities at http://HoustonEmergency.org/COVID19 as supply increases.”

The new appointments were made available due to another 8,000 doses of vaccine delivered to the health department on Friday, according to the statement.

The Houston Department of Health on Friday announced a partnership with the Astros Foundation to host Minute Maid Park as a COVID-19 vaccination site on Saturday.

The vaccination site will be open to those who already have scheduled appointments at the Bayou City Event Center clinic in the health department, which will close for an unrelated weekend event.

People will be provided with information about the new location and instructions on what to do when they arrive. Those who do not have an appointment with the health department will be rejected, health officials said.

“The city of Houston is working 24 hours a day to make the COVID-19 vaccine public based on the available supply. Unfortunately, we do not control the supply of vaccines and we have to schedule local vaccines based on the administration of the vaccine “, said the mayor Sylvester Turner. “We are grateful to the Astros Foundation for being a valuable partner in the city’s COVID-19 response, providing facilities and resources for testing and vaccinations. The Houston Astros leadership has repeatedly demonstrated the organization’s commitment to our community. “

“Astros remain dedicated to our community and are happy to work with the city and its health department to ensure that Houstonians in need receive the vaccine safely and effectively,” said Astros owner and president Jim Crane. “We look forward to helping Houston recover and we are grateful to provide assistance as needed.”
