Holiday Park COVID-19 welcomes seniors without appointment

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is so high that at about 2 a.m. Thursday, there were already drivers lined up at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale.

For now, Holiday Park inoculates people aged 65 and over on a first-come, first-served basis, so this has forced them to close and reopen during the day to avoid congestion.

“We don’t want to create a traffic hazard on SU-1, so we close it when we’re tired, and when it opens, we’ll let more people in,” said Chris Lagerbloom, Fort Lauderdale’s manager.

Finally, public health officials intend to turn the Holiday Park website into an appointment only. The decision not to request appointments follows the inability of Broward residents to make appointments online.

The Holiday Park website is open from 08:00 until 16:00 from Tuesday to Saturday. But on Thursday, there were so many people that they had to close temporarily at 13:00

Dave Altneu made the cut.

“Right now, we are in good shape as soon as we get this,” Altneu said. He will still have to receive a second shot of the vaccine to have 95% protection.

Label drivers in other states have also lined up on the Fort Lauderdale website because Gov. Ron DeSantis does not require proof of residence to receive the vaccine in Florida.

“We really don’t discriminate against who gets the vaccines,” Lagerbloom said.

The average waiting time for those who made the cut was two hours.
