(CBSDFW.COM) – A winter storm is underway in North Texas.

Heavy snow, blowing, entered the DFW Metroplex from the west in the late afternoon.

Some major points to make:

1). This is the heaviest snow in the Metroplex in 11 years. At least 4 inches of snow is expected, maybe more.

2). Temperatures dropped all day, from teenagers to the arrival of heavy snow. Strong northerly winds create chills below zero.

3). For the first time, a wind chill warning is in effect for North Texas. Dangerous cold temperatures are expected tonight and Tuesday.

4). Another snowstorm is expected late Tuesday and Wednesday. It could bring a dangerous round of icing to our southern counties.

Heavy snow and low visibility are expected to continue throughout the evening. Another round will come later on Sunday evening, and this second round will target our southeastern and eastern counties. Road conditions continue to be treacherous and will last all night and most of the day on Monday.

I broke cold Valentine’s Day records; the coldest temperature ever recorded on February 14 in the history of our 123-year-old weather and also the coldest day. More records are expected to decline in the next few days, some over a hundred years old.

The coldest air in more than three decades began moving to North Texas on Sunday night. Until Tuesday morning, we expect a minimum of zero degrees at DFW. This is the coldest night I’ve had in over three decades.

Many fast-growing houses in the Metroplex are not so old. If your home is under 32, you will find out in the next two nights if the exterior wall plumbing is properly insulated.

A second storm is expected to arrive late Tuesday and last on Wednesday. This could produce another round of two to four inches of snow (or more) for Metroplex. It could also become a significant ice storm for our southern counties, from Hill County to Henderson County and south.

Please be aware of this storm. The possibilities of the ice storm with this event could be extremely dangerous.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until midday on Friday. This means that snow / ice will continue to be on many of the roads (especially secondary roads) for most of the week.
