DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 469,928 since Wednesday, including 11,775 deaths, state officials said.

Wednesday’s update includes 3,443 new cases and 70 additional deaths. On Tuesday, the state reported a total of 466,485 confirmed cases and 11,705 deaths.

  • The state will not provide updated COVID-19 numbers on Christmas Day, according to its website. The last update was on December 23, and the next update is expected on Saturday, December 26.

Michigan’s 7-day average for new COVID cases has dropped to 3,311 since Wednesday. The state had a total of about 173,400 active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday.

Hospitalizations began to decline in December. As of Wednesday, there were 3,086 COVID patients at Michigan hospitals, of whom 738 were in critical care.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 18 million cases of COVID have been reported across the country since Wednesday afternoon. More than 329,000 have died in the United States from the virus.

Worldwide, more than 78 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.7 million have died since Wednesday afternoon, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited tests, the different ways in which nations count deaths and the deliberate reporting of governments.

Michigan restaurants are still struggling to get back inside, which is prohibited by state order COVID-19, but Gretchen Whitmer Government suggested that some good news might come soon.

“My hope is that if people do what they did on Thanksgiving Day and don’t travel, and do what they have to do and hold our meetings to a household or two, max and wear masks, that we will be in a position strong immediately after the first of the year to take another step forward, “Whitmer said.

The United States added a second COVID-19 vaccine to its arsenal on Friday, December 19, boosting efforts to remove such a severe outbreak that the nation regularly has more than 3,000 deaths a day.

The much-needed doses are scheduled to arrive Monday after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency release of the vaccine developed by Moderna Inc. and National Institutes of Health.

Governor Michigan Gretchen Whitmer announced that the state is reviewing its COVID-19 order to resume in-person high school classes, reopen certain indoor entertainment venues and allow contactless outdoor sports and fitness classes.

The state is currently under a “break” that has placed stricter COVID-19 regulations at restaurants, schools and more, but that order was scheduled to expire on Sunday (December 20).

Now, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has issued a revised version of the order, which will run until Jan. 15.

A new tool created by Michigan health officials can calculate how likely a person is to get COVID-19 and how severe their infection might be based on their lifestyle and personal behaviors.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched “CV19 CheckUp” – a free, anonymous tool that assesses the risks associated with COVID-19.

“This tool, which we will make available to all Michiganderers, helps individuals understand their risk based on their life situation and personal behavior and provides recommendations for reducing these risks, while connecting people to services, if it is necessary, ”said Dr. Alexis Travis, senior deputy director of the Agency for Aging & Adult Services.

Travis said the tool can be used by all Michigan residents, but is specifically designed to help adults 60 and older. It is anonymous and does not require a name, email address or identifier of any kind.

The tool used artificial intelligence to analyze each person through an online questionnaire. It is designed for those who are considered high risk.

The algorithms of the instrument are driven by science and medicine, using data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization.
