DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has increased to 477,269 since Saturday, including 12,029 deaths, state officials said.
Saturday’s update includes 7,341 new cases and 254 additional deaths. On Wednesday, the state reported a total of 469,928 confirmed cases and 11,775 deaths.
Important Note: The state of Michigan did not provide an update on coronavirus data between December 24-25 due to the holiday. The update on Saturday, December 26, represents an average of 2,447 new cases of COVID-19 registered in Michigan every day, between December 23 and 26.
Of the 254 COVID-19 deaths reported on Saturday, officials say 188 were identified during a review of records – meaning they did not occur between December 23 and 26.
On Saturday, the state reported a total of 318,389 recoveries from the virus.
Michigan no longer offers updates on coronavirus data on Sunday. The next update is expected on Monday afternoon.
According to Johns Hopkins University, 18.8 million cases have been reported across the country since Saturday. More than 331,000 have died from COVID in the United States
Worldwide, more than 80 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 1.7 million have died since Saturday, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited tests, the different ways in which nations count deaths and the deliberate reporting of governments.

Michigan restaurants are still struggling to get back inside, which is prohibited by state order COVID-19, but Governor Gretchen Whitmer suggested that some good news might come soon.
“My hope is that if people do what they did on Thanksgiving Day and don’t travel and do what they have to do and hold our meetings to a household or two, max, and wear masks, we’ll be in a position strong immediately after the first of the year to take another step forward, “Whitmer said.

A new tool created by Michigan health officials can calculate how likely a person is to get COVID-19 and how severe their infection might be based on their lifestyle and personal behaviors.
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services launched “CV19 CheckUp” – a free, anonymous tool that assesses the risks associated with COVID-19.

“This tool, which we will make available to all Michiganderers, helps individuals understand their risk based on their life situation and personal behavior and provides recommendations for reducing these risks, while connecting people to services, if it is necessary, ”said Dr. Alexis Travis, senior deputy director of the Agency for Aging & Adult Services.
Travis said the tool can be used by all Michigan residents, but is specifically designed to help adults 60 and older. It is anonymous and does not require a name, email address or identifier of any kind.
The tool used artificial intelligence to analyze each person through an online questionnaire. It is designed for those who are considered high risk.
The algorithms of the instrument are driven by science and medicine, using data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization.
