Google is known for killing projects, and the Shopping app is still a victim of a long, long list. If you’re an avid user, you’ll be pleased to learn that Chrome for Android gets one of its key features – the ability to track prices and receive bid alerts.
The feature was seen in Chromium Gerrit and has now been released for a few users on Chrome 90 on the stable channel (via SmartDroid). This is especially useful because the mobile version of Chrome does not have the advantage of more price tracking extensions, such as the desktop client. To check if you’ve received the feature, go to the tabbed display interface and press ⋮ to open the menu. If you don’t see Watch the prices in the list, you will need to activate it manually.
Enter the following in the address bar: chrome: // flags / # enable-tab-grid-layout and open the highlighted setting drop-down menu. From this menu, simply tap “Price notifications enabled” to enable price tracking. Even after you restart Chrome, you may need to close and reopen it to run the feature.
We’re not entirely sure how price tracking works now, but it looks like it will only work for the products in the tabs you’ve opened. It may also use your browsing history to determine which products interest you, but we can’t be sure at this time. A few of us from AP have been watching the activated price, so we’ll see what happens. We hope that Google will share some information about how this feature works at some point in the near future.
