The results of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social unrest that shook the country in 2020 will continue to have an impact on life and livelihoods this year. So it is safe to say that many job seekers are looking for companies that prioritize the health and safety of their employees, offer flexibility and advocate for diversity and equality.
Look no further: Career website Glassdoor launched its 13th annual “100 Best Places to Work” list this week, which is based on anonymous feedback from employees who actually work for these companies. Workers complete a review that describes the job, the workplace environment, and the company as an employer in the past year. And the global management group Bain & Company tops the list of awards for employee selection in 2021, followed by technology company NVIDIA NVDA,
and In-N-Out burger.
“They launched a very careful COVID response plan and really improved their game on diversity, fairness and inclusion following recent events in the US,” wrote an anonymous Chicago-based Bain employee.
An In-N-Out employee coveted the West Coast burger chain to serve “Amazing people, wonderful leadership, I feel worried every day and we make the best burgers on the planet!”
Some other familiar names that complete the top 10 include Google GOOG,
Delta Air Lines DAL,
Lululemon LULU,
and Microsoft MSFT,
“Especially with COVID, the priority of the management was the well-being and comfort of the employees”, wrote in a Delta worker.
Bain & Company, Apple AAPL,
and Google were ranked in each of the 100 best Glassdoor jobs since the start of the rankings 13 years ago.
Indeed, more than one in four (28, in fact) of the top 100 jobs in 2021 are technology companies, although Glassdoor notes that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there are six biotech and pharmaceutical employers included among workers’ favorite companies this year, an increase of 200% over last year. These include Johnson & Johnson JNJ,
at no. 24, Pfizer PFE,
at no. 39 and Eli Lilly and LLY Company,
at no. 87.
These health trends have been aligned with the ranking of the best jobs in the US News & World Report, also released this week, which named the nurse (average salary of $ 112,260 per year) as the best position for to combine a six-figure salary with high job satisfaction. Followed by the software developer ($ 107,510 per year); practicing nurse ($ 110,700 per year); medical and health services manager (USD 100,980 per year); and doctor ($ 206,500 per year).

In terms of technology, Glassdoor’s “50 Best Jobs in America” for 2020 named front-end engineers (programmers with a median base salary of $ 105,240 per year) at No. 1, followed by Java developer ( $ 83,589), data researcher ($ 107,801), product manager ($ 117,713) and devops engineer ($ 107,310).
Moreover, the cloud software company Salesforce CRM,
is the only employer to have reached all of Glassdoor’s five lists of the best companies it works for this year, including large US companies, as well as the best jobs in Canada, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. “Including the best pay and benefits, the smartest co-workers, an excellent COVID response,” said a Salesforce employee.
