Heavy rain brings flash floods to parts of Miami-Dade and Broward, causing misery for daily commuters

MIAMI – Parts of South Florida remain flooded after major water storms watered the region, prompting a flash flood warning for Miami and a flood warning for other areas.

Rain has been raining in Miami for several hours, starting Tuesday around 3 p.m. Sometimes the precipitation rates were two to three centimeters per hour.

Doppler radar estimates show that four to six inches of rain fell in and around Miami, Miami Beach and Surfside.

The cars picked up standing water in downtown Miami as they made their way down North Miami Avenue, near Northeast 20th Street.

The Edgewater area is experiencing severe flooding whenever severe weather slips, and Tuesday on Biscayne Boulevard and 23rd Street was no different. The parked cars were stuck in a few inches of water.

After a rainy day on Miami Beach, cars were still sailing on flooded roads for their evening commute.

A strong storm also watered Broward County and prompted the National Meteorological Service to issue a flood warning for some neighborhoods. Pompano beach measured more than an inch of rain on Tuesday.

The storms also left thousands in Broward without water after lightning struck the county’s main pumping station, leading to an announcement of boiling water for thousands of homes.

10 local certified chief meteorologist Betty Davis says a cold, slow-moving front interacts with the warm, humid air of South Florida. The end result is rounds of rain.

The front will still be in the vicinity of South Florida and the Keys overnight, Tuesday through Wednesday. The region could have several showers and storms.
