These health workers kept her cool.
An Oregon medical team went into action after getting stuck in a snowstorm with doses of COVID-19 vaccine about to expire – and used the blows, going from car to car to inject other stranded drivers.
The “makeshift clinic” took place after 20 health workers were stopped in traffic on Highway 199, near Hayes Hill, Josephine Health County said Tuesday.
The group had just completed a mass vaccination event against coronavirus at a local high school and had six more doses to take at the end of the day.
Other recipients of the shots had been identified, but “the snow meant that these doses would not reach them before they expired,” the health department said on Facebook.
Not wanting them to go to waste, the staff went from vehicle to vehicle giving people the chance to receive the vaccine, with a county ambulance on hand for safety.
All six doses were given, including an employee of County Sheriff Josephine’s office who arrived at the vaccination clinic too late and ended up stuck with the others.
Josephine County Public Health Director Mike Weber said it was “one of the coolest operations” he had been involved in.
