Health will unveil the protocols for face-to-face education tomorrow

The designated health minister said it will be on Friday that the health department will unveil guidelines for the opening of schools, which should begin March 1 at the urging of Governor Pedro Pierluisi.

The CDC as a federal agency advises guidelines. We have these guides and they are in the public domain. These manuals must be tempered according to a protocol. We have that protocol. Sure, if you look, last week the CDC already changed its guidelines because it’s something dynamic. Hence, it is up to each state and territory to implement the public policy of how it will be. And I want to decide to have that guide, it would be quite smart to follow that guide, or if I want to start another one, “Mellado López said at a press conference.

“As a public policy, the government of Puerto Rico has prioritized face-to-face education. He said we want a personal alternative. And this is based on a request from the private sector and public schools. In this sense, the Department of Health joins, brings the CDC guide, which it updated last week, and creates a protocol. We already have that protocol, ”he added.

Mellado López said he will reveal the contents of those protocols next Friday.

On the other hand, the head of Health spoke of the delay in receiving vaccines that Puerto Rico has experienced as a result of the winter storm that hit the United States.

“At the moment, we have not received any vaccinations this week due to adverse weather conditions in the United States,” said Mellado López.

“We always get vaccinations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These vaccines are always kept live frozen, because if there is no activity that weekend, you cannot transport that vaccine if you are not going to use it. Vaccine arriving in Puerto Rico, vaccine that we inoculate, ”he added.

He stated that patients who have appointments “we communicate with patients to inform them that appointments are not going.” He said the only one sustaining the vaccination process is the National Guard for the second dose of first responders.
