The designated secretary of the Department of Health, Carlos Mellado, reported today, Monday, that the agency will participate in the COVID-19 outbreak that was reported in a prison in Bayamón.

According to information provided by the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DCR), approximately 143 detainees were affected by the outbreak.

“Epidemiologists from the Department of Health They will pay attention to the COVID-19 outbreak in DCR and will establish the plan for containing the infections, “Mellado said in a tweet.

“They will have the necessary tests and treatments to address the situation and ensure the health of everyone in the correctional system,” he added.

Earlier this evening, DCR confirmed an outbreak in module 1 of the Bayamón 501 correctional facility. According to the appointed secretary, Ana Escobar Pabón, 141 of the infected detainees remain asymptomatic.
