The designated secretary of the Department of Health (DS), Carlos Mellado López, assured this morning, Monday, that the people of Puerto Rico and the tourists “are free”.
“There are many places and I will do you very honestly … people are deceived. People are deceived in Puerto Rico and obviously one cannot be in two places at the same time,” the doctor said in an interview with WKAQ 580am.
He added: “La Placita (in Santurce) on Friday was disastrous and we didn’t have the opportunity to be there because we were in Naguabo. This is something individual and right now, as I said, we want to open schools there there are many municipalities that are in the red, certainly if this pattern of behavior continues, of course, there will be infections in that municipality.We need to think and be aware of this.
In addition, the secretary took action against people visiting the island in the midst of the pandemic.
“Tourists forget … in a place where there is no COVID and it’s bad. In Puerto Rico we try to end the pandemic, we see hospitalizations decrease every day … but we also see that at night they have parties, people without masks, tourists who come without a mask … “, he said.
On the other hand, the appointed secretary confirmed that there are over 450,000 people vaccinated against coronavirus in Puerto Rico.
“This weekend was a brutal one of vaccinations. We had 15 simultaneous centers. Since Wednesday we started vaccinating ourselves. We went to a large number of countries, including Orocovis, Barranquitas and around us we continued through many different cities.”
