Health reports 24 deaths caused by COVID-19 and the total increases to 1,616

The Department of Health reported this morning that it added 24 deaths to its records of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, bringing the total to 1,616.

The agency said, however, that seven of those deaths had been reported so far in January, and the remaining 17 were reported last year but were not reported. The period of deaths reported today takes place between October 25 and January 8.

On the other hand, the agency’s portal shows this the total number of confirmed positive cases for the virus increased to 77,280 after the addition of 479 recent results.

Meanwhile, the probable cases are now 5,350, with 78 new results and 58,144 suspects, with a total of 454 new results.

The agency reported that the total number of confirmed cases has been adjusted to add 89 cases before 24 December 2020. In addition, 14 duplicate cases were reduced.

The total probable cases were also adjusted to decrease the 68 cases that had a positive molecular test. The agency also reduced a double contagion.

Meanwhile, the total number of positive suspicious cases was adjusted by subtracting 78 cases that had a positive molecular test and one (1) case that had a positive antigen test. Similarly, four (4) cases were added before 24 December 2020 and three (3) duplicate cases were reduced.

The agency did not update the number of people who were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.

In the meantime, the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased to 420, of which 75 are confined in an intensive care unit and 76 are connected to an artificial respirator.

There are now two pediatric patients remaining in intensive care. One of them is connected to an artificial respirator.

To date, hospitals in the country have 228 intensive care beds and 821 artificial respirators available for adults.

According to the agency, the confirmed positive case term refers to infections whose result was validated by a PCR (molecular) test. The probable case is one whose positive result for the disease was obtained by antigen testing. Meanwhile, the suspected cases, also known as antibody results, are those that have a positive serological test and do not have a positive molecular or antigen test.

In addition, the agency explained that a confirmed death of COVID-19 corresponds to the death of a person with one or more positive molecular tests. Probable death is the death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 by an antigen test or whose clinical picture meets the criteria for believing that he or she had COVID-19 but never had a molecular or antigen test to detect the virus. . Meanwhile, suspicious death refers to the death of a person in whom a specific antibody is detected in serum, plasma or by a serological test with their blood.
