Health halts application of Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen vaccine in Puerto Rico

Secretary of the Department of Health (DS), Carlos Mellado, assured today, Tuesday, that they will pause the application of the Johnson and Johnson Janssen vaccine following the Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for the acronym) in English) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

“Given the determination of the FDA and the CDC, we will pause the use of the Johnson and Johnson Janssen vaccine until we have new instructions,” Mellado said through written expressions.

The doctor added that no case of blood clots has been reported on the island from a patient who received the said dose.

“In Puerto Rico, we have no cases related to the side effect, especially blood clots. The six cases out of the 7 million people who received the vaccine were identified in the United States. We are concerned and we will be vigilant” , he says. said.

Mellado said the coronavirus vaccination process will continue on the island with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

“We are continuing the vaccination process with our largest source of vaccines this week, administering the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. We will continue the vaccination process with the more than 100,000 vaccines we receive every week.”
