When it comes to NFL defenders, that’s all about matching. Trying to classify the defensive prospects for the NFL draft in a general sense is one thing, but usually the rankings you see from NFL draft experts can vary greatly, but large individual boards on NFL teams are highly specialized.
One thing we can say for sure, it really feels like, with the start of the first round, you will see four quarterbacks come out of the board very quickly. The teams made moves to get to the top of the first round and it is safe to assume that it is to design one of the best signalers.
However, if these project experts are to be the fifth defender in the project, they could slip into the middle of the first round. Who is that fifth defender? It depends on who you ask. At one point it was firm Mac Jones of Alabama. Now he looks like a nice draft and will be the third defender taken.
This leaves Justin Fields of Ohio and Trey Lance of North Dakota. Does it matter which guy slips when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers? I would say no. Both players have skill sets to thrive in a Matt Canada offense and would bring the Steelers offensive now and be built for the future.
How far would it take Steelers to trade? Given the market, choosing the number 10 should do it and there is a precedent for this type of Pittsburgh move when identifying a player they really think they need.
