Hawaiian Gardens Hospital wants to hire 100 people for reopening as COVID treatment center

HAWAIIAN GARDENS, Calif. (KABC) – A previously closed hospital in Hawaiian Gardens hosted a recruitment event Saturday morning following a recent reopening of COVID-19.

The 137-bed Pacific Gardens Medical Center is looking to hire 100 skilled and unskilled nurses and other employees, including food services and care workers.

Newly hired staff will assist the emergency room staff of the unit, the intensive care unit and the coronavirus treatment unit.

The hospital must also hold positions in its pharmacy, surgery and radiology departments, officials said.

Marilyn Evans of Pasadena hopes to be among those who will be hired. Recently, he worked with patients with COVID-19.

“They are alone there, we are constantly either Facetiming with the families or on the phone with the families, it is a bit difficult, but for that we are, to give them some kind of hope and tell them, we continue to push on,” she said.

The medical center, which closed in 2017 after a financial battle, reopened earlier this week as part of an effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the surrounding community. The new owners of the hospital have spent over $ 20 million on renovations.

“It’s a massive undertaking,” said David Diamond, a spokesman for the facility. “We need all our support staff. There are heroes in that building. These are people who have given up much of their own personal lives for something I think is incredibly important to the community.”

The facility hopes to be fully equipped by mid-April. Evans knows that this opportunity for her can also help a struggling community.

“There’s a demand and I meet them every day. I just pray to stay healthy to go to work,” Evans said.

Saturday’s job fair ended, but several applications were to be accepted Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pacific Gardens Medical Center, 21530 South Pioneer Boulevard in Hawaiian Gardens.
