Hidalgo explained the basics of how the waiting list will work. Hidalgo was joined by Dr. Sherri Onyiego, the interim local health authority for Harris County Public Health.
It is said that the waiting list is weighted and randomized, which means that the website will not necessarily favor anyone with the fastest internet connection. Once the portal opens on Tuesday, everyone will be able to register.
If you fall into groups 1A, 1B or seniors, then your record will be weighted for priority and then randomized in the priority list.
The launch of this new portal and waiting list expands the previous process, allowing eligible residents to register directly for vaccines, according to a county press release.
Eligible residents without internet access can also call 832 927-8787 after the portal is active to be placed on the waiting list.
If you are not part of these three groups, you will still be able to register, but it means that you will be on a waiting list for when the vaccine opens to the general public.
In addition to the new portal, the Department of Public Health will also launch a COVID-19 vaccine data center. The center will display vaccine availability, distribution and other demographics.
