Tillman responded to the allegations by issuing a statement denying details of a specific incident – which, according to Tribune, took place in 2016 and aroused several other women who came before – while apologizing to the “brave women” who “came to talk about how I treated them, including harmful, abusive behavior and selfish ”. Although he is careful not to blame drugs and alcohol for his behavior, Tillman expresses his struggles with substance abuse as a contributing factor to his behavior toward women during the period described. Aside from the 2016 incident, which he says “simply didn’t happen,” Tillman’s statement avoids a direct approach to any other charges against him.
The music community in Minneapolis, where Tillman appeared before becoming more successful worldwide, has already begun taking action on the allegations against him. Per Tribune, the city’s First Avenue nightclub has cut plans to sell tickets for a future show by Tillman’s Heart Bones and local radio station 89.3 The Current has withdrawn its music from the rotation.
