Haitian Foreign Minister says migration and trade are key issues in relations with Dominican Republic

Haitian Foreign Minister and Cult Claude Joseph said migration and trade are priority issues in relations with the Dominican Republic, as both countries move forward optimistically in a new phase of collaboration and cooperation.

The Haitian Foreign Minister spoke during a roundtable discussion on “Migration and Trade at the Center of Haitian-Dominican Relations: Analysis, Issues and Perspectives,” organized by the Haitian-Dominican Joint Commission, chaired by Marie- Andrée Amy.

Migration and trade are two main issues in Haitian-Dominican relations, Foreign Minister Claude Joseph recalled in his speech, adding that these are the two issues that most mark the disparities between the two countries.

He said that priority issues for Haiti in the current bilateral agenda are regularizing the status of Haitian students and workers, guaranteeing and protecting the integrity of those territories, health cooperation, developing borders and rebalancing trade, including greater access for Haitian products to the Dominican market.

The Minister also took the opportunity to emphasize that “relations between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic continue to be at the forefront of Haiti’s foreign policy priorities”.
