GTA 6 leak revives long rumors of “Project Americas”

One more week, another rumor about Grand Theft Auto.

The Internet is constantly full of speculation Grand Theft Auto 6, despite the fact that the game has not yet been officially announced. It may be the most anticipated game of all time, but we’re not even sure it will ever exist.

However, this latest rumor could have a few legs. Some recent reviews may have hinted at setting the next game. That would be good news for fans of a certain PS2 classic, but people might want to pump the brakes before the hype train gets too far.

The new theory comes from the Twitter account “GTA News 6“Following the rumors about the game. Twitter user discovered a mysterious new site when searching through Take-Two Interactive’s current domain list: rockstarcartel.com. It appears the site was registered in 2002, but received an update last week on Monday, April 12th.

Here comes the conclusion of the jumps. The word “cartel” led some to believe that this could be a confirmation that GTA 6 returns to Vice City. The fictional city is an alternative to Miami, which was once considered the drug capital of the world because of cartel wars. Vice City has long been one of the rumored settings for the next game, leading some to believe it can’t be a coincidence.

To add some fuel to that fire, the field was curiously first recorded months before Grand Theft Auto: Vice City released in 2002. The hope here is that history could repeat itself and the site could be booked for a new game.

As with any such rumor, fans should not raise their hopes. Field goals of this kind happen quite frequently and do not always lead to great revelation. In February, Nintendo fans discovered that waluigi.com was updated just before the next Super Smash Bros. character. This has sparked a seemingly ironic theory that Waluigi will be the next character in the fighting game. That rumor did not come true.

The “Rockstar Cartel” is also too vague an expression to really do much. Although it could be a reference to Vice City, drug cartels don’t just exist in Miami. Given that most Rockstar games deal with the criminal world, it could be a reference to any number of projects. This could be something reserved for one Grand Theft Auto Online update or even something left like a new one Max Payne game.

However, the most attractive explanation would be that this is related to GTA 6 and that the “Project Americas” leaks are real. Unconfirmed reports say the game will be set in several different cities, including Vice City and undisclosed South American cities, all involved in a drug cartel. So it is obvious that everything could be connected.

There is always a chance that the answer will be even more boring than that. “Cartels” could just be a vague brand for a new Rockstar social program. Even more realistically, Take-Two may perform a routine update of its domains and perform a quick page update in the process.

Of course, we can still dream. Although there is no official word on when we might see GTA 6, it is hard to imagine that it will not happen. The franchise is a money cow for Rockstar and it’s only a matter of time before news about it appears. Until then, it has become a harmless scavenger hunt for hungry fans. We can only play GTA V all the more so we need a way to fill time.
