Greta Thunberg gives up UN climate conference on “vaccine nationalism” over coronavirus

In November, world leaders are due to descend on Glasgow, Scotland, for the UN climate conference – but the world’s most famous climate activist, Greta Thunberg, has absolutely no intention of being there. One Friday morning Twitter The 18-year-old said she would “like” to attend the conference, but will refuse to do so when the global launch of vaccines remains so uneven. “Climate inequality and injustice are already at the heart of the climate crisis,” she wrote. “If people cannot be vaccinated and travel to be represented equally, this is undemocratic and would make matters worse.” Thunberg said the British government should delay the conference until more people in the world have access to vaccines. “We don’t have to wait for conferences or anyone else to start dramatically reducing our emissions.” she wrote. The British press reported that the conference could be rejected again by 2022, but the government is convinced that up to 30,000 people could attend.
