Gran Turismo Sport has transformed Sony’s iconic series of simulation races into an extremely popular e-sport and thus managed to push the brand forward. However, fans of the series lamented the lack of a full single-player campaign, as in previous entries; the way of collecting cars inspired by the RPG from previous titles was, after all, a big part of the brand’s long-term success.
We already know that the Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 5 will be a combination of “past, present and future”, which means that it will include a full solo mode. However, in an interview with journalist Toshifumi Watanabe for Octane Japan – translated by GT Planet – the creator of the series Kazunori Yamauchi reiterated that we can expect a more traditional experience this time.
“While inheriting elements such as [FIA] championship made in GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will return to the royal purpose of complete volumes such as [Gran Turismo] 1-4 and offers the best Gran Turismo experience today, ”he said. The translation is a little strange, but we are sure you can deduce what you get here.
This feels like the next natural step for the franchise to be honest. Obviously, the e-sports aspect doesn’t go anywhere – and the multiplayer mode was so successful on PS4, that we wouldn’t want to – but building a more traditional single player experience should benefit from the overall package and we think this will be a big hit when it launches on the PS5 later this year.
