He went viral because he used the powerful Gorilla Glue – an industrial-grade adhesive – on his hair when he ran out of a product called Got2b Glued. For more than a month, Brown’s hair clung to his scalp.
Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Michael K. Obeng empathized after learning about her story.
“I saw how much pain he could have,” Dr. Obeng said. “And after talking to him, I realized he needed help.”
He started working on a solution that would be safe and effective. Brown flew to Los Angeles from New Orleans. The pro bono hours procedure through Obeng’s non-profit organization, Restore, worked.
“I was very ecstatic that I could put a smile on someone’s face to eliminate the headache and suffering,” Obeng said.
Brown is able to run his fingers through his hair again.
“It’s been a month, but it seemed like years,” Brown told our sister KABC-TV.
“I have a happy dance,” said a smiling Brown.
But she admits that the condemnatory and ridiculous comments were painful for her and her family.
“She is so stupid. It was stupid, “you know,” You should cut your head off, “she said of the comments on social media.
One of her children was assaulted.
“Someone invented a song,” Brown said. But instead of saying, “Don’t worry about what people say,” I was in the bathroom crying because I read all these comments … People need to understand that you can’t take someone down when it’s already so low. “
Brown, a mother of five who runs a kindergarten and dance team, had support. Her video sparked a conversation about the challenges many black women experience due to Eurocentric beauty standards.
Others simply let her know that they had roots in her. She said she intends to respond individually to each person who contacted her.
“If it takes me a month, three months, I’ll thank everyone in the mailbox,” Brown said.
She had regretted posting the video, but now she is relieved that it helped her find a solution.
“All the negative things everyone was saying, I don’t even care. My hair is here, the glue is gone,” she said.
