GOP’s refusal to be vaccinated is detrimental to efforts to lift restrictions

Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Sunday that Republicans who want to lift COVID-19 restrictions but don’t want to get vaccinated are no use.

“It is almost paradoxical that on the one hand they want to be released from the restrictions, but on the other hand they do not want to be vaccinated. It just doesn’t make any sense, “Fauci said in CNN’s State of the Union.

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said he was frustrated by a poll that found 43 percent of GOP voters still didn’t want to get the chance.

“It’s quite frustrating because the fact that people may not want to get vaccinated, in this case of an alarmingly large proportion of Republicans, only works against where they want to be,” he said.

Fauci noted that many Republicans appear to be “very concerned” about public health restrictions.

“We share that concern, but the way you get rid of those restrictions is by getting as many people vaccinated as quickly and as soon as possible because when that happens … you’re going to see the virus levels drop and fall in the community. and to the point where you shouldn’t have to have those public health restrictions, ”he said.

The comments come after Fauci and GOP Rep. Jim Jordan last week in several heated exchanges about reopenings came during Congressional testimony.
