Happy Pi Day, you nerdy comrades! The annual celebration of the mathematical constant π or pi, aka the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (and here I thought I would never have a chance to use ninth grade geometry in real life!). It falls on March 14, because pi written numerically is 3.14 … and then continues forever, because irrational numbers roll like that.
To honor this pseudo-holiday, Google has hidden a small Easter egg in the Chrome computer. To pull it up, look “Pi”, “pi day” or simply “computer” in Google. You should see a few stars twinkling around a pi symbol in the upper left corner. When you click on it, it triggers a kind of “Simon Says” game, except for the pi digits: The computer briefly shows you the first three pi digits, and if you manage to enter all digits right then do the same for the first four pi digits, then the first five numbers, and so on and so forth. We played with it a bit, which you can see in the gif below.
The computer even records “your high score”, which I think is pretty cute adorable, will not lie. It reminds me of the old days of CoolMath4Kids.

Google’s pi computer game would probably continue ad infinitum as pi itself, but we haven’t tested this theory yet. Feel free to check it out and let us know what you find in the comments.
