GoDaddy, an internet domain, sent employees an e-mail promising a Christmas bonus – which turned out to be a computer security test.

About 500 employees clicked on the Dec. 14 email from the Arizona company, which offered them a $ 650 holiday bonus and asked them to fill out a form with their personal information.

“Happy Holiday GoDaddy! 2020 was a record year for GoDaddy, thank you! “, Said the message, obtained by the Phoenix KPNX television station.

“Although we can’t celebrate together during our annual holiday party, we want to show our appreciation and share a unique $ 650 holiday bonus!”

Two days later, employees received an email from the head of security at GoDaddy, who wrote: “You receive this email because you failed our recent phishing test,” Copper Courier reported.

Many social networking users have gone through GoDaddy over coal, calling the test deaf in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic that has left millions of Americans collapsing financially.

The company said on Thursday that it apologized to people who considered the email “insensitive”, adding that it “takes the security of our platform extremely seriously”.

“We understand that some employees were upset by the phishing attempt and considered it insensitive, for which we apologized,” a spokesman said in a statement.
