Georgia’s Kirby Smart raises Florida standings, Brian Kelly and Ed Orgeron bury Bulldogs

ATHENS – Georgia finished 9th in the Amway Coaches Poll, just as the Bulldogs were ranked in the college football committee.

But unlike the PCP, the 61 coaches in the coaches’ poll reveal their final votes.

Some of the rankings were attractive, for better or worse, and could make interesting jokes the next time the coaches intersect.

Kirby Smart’s vote will turn some heads in its own fan base.

Georgia’s head coach ranked Florida higher than any other coach who voted – including Gators coach Dan Mullen – placing his fierce rival 4th.

Florida defeated Georgia 44-28 this season, but Mullen was accused of beating the Bulldogs before, even though he strongly denied the accusation.

Mullen, who voted Georgia in 9th place, had his own team in 6th place.

Here’s how the Top 10 finished in the general vote:

1. Alabama

2. Clemson

3. The State of Ohio

4. Texas A&M

5. Our Lady

6. Cincinnati

7. Oklahoma

8. Indiana

9. Georgia

10. Florida

While Smart was growing up in Florida, Clemson’s coach, Dabo Swinney, was in first place nationally because he had his enemy in the PCP, Ohio, in 11th place in the final vote of the coaches’ poll.

What most didn’t notice was that Swinney had Georgia in 6th place, higher than any other coach than Scott Satterfield, who also had No. 6 Bulldogs.

It is very likely that Swinney will have one of Clemson’s analysts or graduate assistants who is already shooting the Bulldogs.

The Tigers will begin opening with Georgia next season in Charlotte, NC

The “new” version of football in Georgia, with defender JT Daniels, has an average of over 41 points and almost 500 meters of offense per game.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly and LSU coach Ed Orgeron presented two of the most impressive ballots in Georgia football, none of which showed much or even respect.

Kelly, who lost to Kirby Smart and Georgia in South Bend in 2017 (20-19), and again in Athens in 2019 (23-17), has the Bulldogs up to 13th on the vote.

Then there’s Orgeron, which ranks Georgia lower than any other poll at No. 15 – behind Northwestern and BYU!

And if anyone thinks that Orgeron’s bias is due to the fact that LSU defeated Georgia in 2018 and 2019, it is worth mentioning that it has the Florida team that Tiger defeated 6 weeks ago in 6th place!

Texas coach Jake Spavital was another coach against Georgia, with Smart’s team in 14th place.

Spavital was the Texas A&M offensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015, when Smart was the defensive coordinator in Alabama. Smart’s defense closed him out in his first year as Aggies’ offensive coordinator in a 59-0 Tide victory in 2014.
