Under pressure from Fox News’ Neil Cavuto in an interview on Wednesday about whether he would support Trump if he became the party’s nominee in 2024, Kemp said, “Absolutely, I’m going to support the nominee.”
Like I said, I’ve worked really hard for the president again. I think his ideas … will be a part of our party for a long time to come, ”said Kemp. And Republicans, we need a big top. I mean there are a lot of great ideas. “
“We won’t always get along, but I think the president deserves a lot of credit,” Kemp continued. “And he’s not going away.”
Just earlier this week, Trump said he thought his decision to back Kemp ahead of the 2018 Republican Governmental Primary Spout was “ an endorsement that hurt us. ”
Trump claimed that Kemp, against whom former Georgian Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle fought in a first round of the GOP election, was “in last place or just about last place” at the time of the approval.
“I supported him, he won the election in the end and he was certainly not very effective for the Republican Party, to put it nicely,” Trump said.
Trump’s statement is one of a series of incentives the former president made at Kemp in the wake of the 2020 presidential election, in which traditionally red Georgia stunned the nation when it went for a Democrat for the first time since 1992.
Trump has sharply criticized Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) on several occasions since the election after the two backed down against unsubstantiated claims Trump made about widespread voter fraud that cost him the state and his reelection.
In late November, Trump said he was “ashamed” to endorse Kemp years ago. He also pushed for primary challengers for the governor in the weeks following the election, asking then-Rep. Doug Collins

Later in December, Kemp swept off phone calls from Trump to resign, as well as calls for him to face a primary, which characterizes the attacks as a distraction.
