Georgia Bulldogs add former West Virginia climber, CB Tykee Smith

Georgia has addressed one of its urgent needs in high school by adding former West Virginia incumbent Tykee Smith as a transfer.

Smith, a third team of the Associated Press All-American in 2020, announced on Sunday night on Twitter that he intends to move to Georgia. He will have two more years of eligibility.

Smith, a Philadelphia junior, had 61 tackles, eight loss tackles and two interceptions in 10 games with the Mountaineers last season. He started eight games as a freshman in 2019 and had 53 attacks, a sack and a forced fight.

Smith will reunite with former West Virginia defensive defender Jahmile Addae, who left for Georgia in January.

The Bulldogs lost their safety when Richard LeCounte and Mark Webb entered the NFL draft and Tyrique Stevenson moved to Miami. Three cornerbacks, Tyson Campbell, Eric Stokes and DJ Daniel, also went to the NFL draft.

“We are far from ready for what we have to do with the secondary, because we just have a lot of inexperienced players,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after Saturday’s mackerel. “We can’t have enough situations: scrimmages, crossings, all the different aspects we get, because we need experience.”
