Raiders owner Mark Davis did not panic over social media criticism of his team’s tweet following Derek Chauvin’s conviction in all respects in connection with the assassination of George Floyd. The Floyd family expressed their gratitude, not condemnation, for the message sent by Davis.
“On behalf of our family, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Las Vegas Raiders and its leadership for their support of our family and for the continued pursuit of justice and equality for all,” said Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd. via Associated Press. “Now, more than ever, we must unite and continue this struggle. For the first time in almost a year, our family has inspired. And I know it’s true for so many people across the nation and around the globe. Let’s breathe together in honor of my older brother who couldn’t. Let’s do it for George. ”
Davis explained after the tweet created a shout that he intended to reflect the feelings of the Floyd family.
“It was taken negatively by 99% of people,” Davis said through A?. “That’s what’s happening. It’s part of social media.”
Really. No matter what anyone says on any subject, someone on social media will be ready to jump. Davis, on his merits, firmly held that the message from him and the team – I CAN BREATHE – honored the moment of justice for a man whose plea to Chauvin, “I can’t breathe,” was ignored.
This is the deeper message from Davis and the Raiders. It’s important to ignore the noise of millions passing around a megaphone that resonates for a moment, but which ultimately means nothing. Davis said what she wanted to say, she wanted to say what she said and the Floyd family appreciated her. If anyone else has a problem with that, it’s their problem.
