The impact of Genshin is one of the most gigantic and, to some extent, grindy games in existence today, but its players remain greedy for content. On February 3, they will be briefly celebrated by a great new event: the Lantern Ritual Festival, which will bring with it a new playable character, stories and challenges and a way similar to the defense tower.

In a stream today, developer Mihoyo announced that the Lantern Rite Festival will be the focal point of The impact of Genshin1.3 is updated and highlighted what it will contain. Taking place in the port of Liyue, the event will arrange the place in – what else – lanterns. Because Mihoyo knows what keeps players from returning (hint: they’re hot anime characters), the first order of your work will be to complete a story quest centered on a new playable character: Xiao, the demon conqueror.

Xiao is an Anemo (read: wind) who carries an arm, and one of his abilities allows him to initiate a plunge attack from any height without suffering fall damage. The damage from the attack is determined by how high it is when it starts, so I’m excited about the inevitable flood of YouTube videos in which players shot tough bosses, putting them at the forefront of the world. Xiao also has an elemental explosion ability called “The Wrath of All Evil”, which sees him wearing a cold mask and increasing his damage and AOE, but at the cost of his HP.

During the Lantern Rite event, players who are on the rank of 23 adventures and more will be able to undertake the search for Xiao, no story key is needed. After the event, however, you will need to be 32 or older, and if you do not have a story key, then you will need to earn one by completing eight commissions, which are basically daily missions. In case of doubt, Mihoyo wants the players to come back and resume the game (and purchase of primogems) sooner rather than later.

Leading this point home, the Lantern Rite Festival will also include a Ley Line outpouring event, during which special challenges (which require GenshinFrequently denigrated “resin” currency) granted double rewards. This event will take place for a limited time with the Lantern Rite Festival. No one currently has a set end date, although players speculate it will likely be mid-February. At that time, the Lantern Rite Festival will not disappear forever, but will not be repeated until next year.

Once you have completed your search for Xiao, the Lantern Ritual Festival will begin in earnest. It will be composed of several parts, including a special event store called Xiao Square, which, according to the voice actors hosting the stream, has nothing to do with the character Xiao. The store will unlock new products in stages as you complete requests and stories to fill a “Festive Fever” counter.

You’ll be able to earn event coins by completing various activities, including a new mode called Theater Mechanicus, which appears to be a hybrid of The impact of Genshin preparing for battle and defending the tower. In it, arrange Mechanics – little chess-looking robots – to defend a territory and then fight waves of monsters alongside them.

There is also a new photo-based activity that seems like a fun (albeit slightly coercive) change of pace. Every day of the event, there will be a new photo subject. You will have 10 chances per day to use a new item called “Kurious Kamera” (lmao) to take a photo of the corresponding object, which in turn will bring you a random photo as a reward. No, it’s not a mistake. Yes, you get a photo for a photo. Each photo has a color. If you collect a complete set of five colors, you can change it with a fortune, which contains primems and materials. Now that the rewards for your photos are random, there’s a chance you’ll get more matching colors. Therefore, the system is designed to encourage you to make and trade with friends in the game.

In addition to those major features, the update will also include quality of life improvements, such as a category of “living beings” archives that allow you to see detailed information about everything you’ve encountered in the game world, as well as additions to your character’s screen. The rise of the characters – that is, the improvement of the characters after they have reached the maximum level – will become even easier, with new unlockable objects that will allow players to create one elementary material in another and transmute materials.

Eventually, there will be new threatening rock dragon monsters called Geovishaps to hunt, first sending characters of your choice (including one belonging to a friend) on expeditions, then going to their location and finishing the job on their own. The fights with the bosses that follow will apparently be quite tough. Hopefully there will be some very high rocks above your head.
