Gary Sanchez of the Yankees, OK, after the scare

The Yankees seem to have avoided the worst with Gary Sanchez.

The catcher left the 6-3 loss on Saturday in front of Rays after removing a wrong tip from the exposed right hand in the fourth half, but the X-rays were negative. The Yankees called him day by day with a contusion to his right index finger and middle fingers.

“I definitely feel better now than when it happened,” Sanchez said after the game through an interpreter. “I have more movement in my fingers. … If I continue to improve now, I might be ready to play tomorrow. ”

Kyle Higashioka, who replaced Sanchez in the fifth half, will be paired again with Gerrit Cole on Sunday, but manager Aaron Boone said he expected Sanchez to return to the line on Tuesday after Monday.

Sanchez initially remained in the game for the rest of the fourth half and flew to center field in the bottom half, but came out after feeling more swollen after the shot.
