US futures won ahead of a day full of earnings reports and the inauguration of Joe Biden as 46th president.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.4% on Wednesday, while Nasdaq-100 technology contracts gained 0.8%. Dow Jones Industrial Futures rose 0.1%.
Investors analyzed a series of earnings reports from UnitedHealth, Procter & Gamble, US Bancorp and Morgan Stanley. United Airlines will release its revenues immediately after the markets close.
Shares started the week on an optimistic note, with all three major indices well below record values. Investors remain optimistic that the tax incentive will support businesses through the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This will put pressure on companies to deliver on earnings this season and meet market expectations, said Brian O’Reilly, head of market strategy at Mediolanum Investment Funds.
