Many free games on the Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and Xbox One consoles will no longer need the Xbox Live Gold subscription, Microsoft announced on Wednesday.
The change was made official after Microsoft began lifting the restriction in its Xbox Insiders beta testing program. In addition, a system update this month will open the “Group Search” option for all users, and the party chat used during free games will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Microsoft provided more information in a frequently asked question posted on Wednesday. The new policy applies to a list of 70 titles available for Xbox platforms. In addition, the listing page for a game in the Microsoft Store will indicate if it’s free to play online or requires Xbox Live Gold.
There are a few more exceptions: free weekend promotions, in which a premium game is available for free to everyone on a trial basis, will still require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access online multiplayer. Demo versions will not require Gold for any multiplayer it supports, but it is still required for demos that require a pre-order or purchase for access, plus early access games, “$ 0 sale offers” and other limited trial versions. while premium products.
