Axed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed his frustration at losing his job and admitted he wanted more time this season in his first public statement since being fired from the club.
Blues legend Lampard reacted to his brutal resignation on Monday night, telling fans he hoped he would be allowed to try to improve Chelsea’s stuttering fortunes this season.
Responding through the League Managers Association, Lampard said: “It has been a privilege and an honor to lead Chelsea, a club that has been an important part of my life for so long.

“First of all, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support I have received in the last 18 months. I hope he knows what that means to me.
“When I took over this role, I understood the challenges that had to arise at a difficult time for the football club.
“I am proud of the achievements I have made and I am proud of the players from the academy who made their way into the first team and performed so well. They are the future of the club.
‘I am disappointed that I did not have time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level.

The pair enjoyed years of trophy-laden glory together when Lampard was Chelsea’s midfielder.
“I want to thank Mr. Abramovich, the board of directors, the players, my coaching team and everyone in the club for their hard work and dedication, especially in these unprecedented and challenging times.
“I wish the team and the club much success for the future.”
Lampard had been under pressure after a series of five defeats in eight Premier League games, although his sudden departure earlier in the day had been another shock to many fans.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich took the unprecedented step of explaining the relentless move as part of the club’s announcement, calling it “a very difficult decision”.
