An ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at a nursing home in Cayuga County took the lives of four more residents on Wednesday.

The Cayuga County Health Department reported the four deaths – two women in their 90s and two men in their 80s – in its latest status update. Residents of nursing homes tested positive for the virus before they died.

No other information was released, including the nursing home where the residents lived. But a state tracker COVID-19 reveals that the deaths took place at The Commons on St. Anthony, a nursing home in Auburn.

Commons is in the middle of an outbreak that has affected more than 115 residents of the facility. There were 15 COVID-related deaths at the nursing home, according to the state’s investigative researcher.

A Loretto spokesman, who operates the facility, said earlier this week that drop precautions are in place throughout the nursing home. According to these protocols, employees must wear personal protective equipment, such as face shields, gloves and gowns, when caring for residents.
