Some of the biggest football clubs in the world have collaborated with the extremely popular online game for the latest update
Football is coming to Fortnite with a new update from Epic Games, including the Pele Cup and collaborations with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Kickoff Set”, which will be released on January 23, will include 23 sets of clubs as playable skins, a new tournament with real and in-game prizes and the chance to “thrill” like the Brazilian icon Pele.
Twenty-three clubs from around the world, including Manchester City, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Santos, Los Angeles FC, Melbourne City, Celtic and Rangers (the full list below) will have specially designed men’s and women’s outfits.
Players can win the new Pele Cup kits on January 20 with a limited-time football game mode and play with the new Creative Mode Football Island.
“Pele’s Air Punch”, a new emoticon based on the celebration of the Brazilian legend’s goal, will be available for purchase in the store or as a prize in the Pele Cup.
The regional winners of the tournament will receive a signed Santos shirt, while the top 3,500 players from each region will win the Pele’s Air Punch emote and a selection of character outfits.
Nate Nanzer, global head of partnerships at Epic Games, explained the collaboration to ESPN: “We think about the evolution of Fortnite and all the different IP integrations we did and bringing all these different worlds into play, I think we did a pretty amazing job in movies and comics.
“Batman plays Deadpool and Wolverine and Iron Man. We brought all these amazing worlds together.
“But in sports, we’ve had an amazing partnership with the NFL, but we haven’t done much beyond our NFL partnership. In the last year, we’ve really focused on how we can grow our footprint in sports.
“There could certainly be things we will do with modern footballers in the future, and I think that, given that so many of them are huge Fortnite fans, there could be some fun things we will do in the future. ”
