Former Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Erickson was charged with reckless driving this week as part of a fatal hit and run in California.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Erickson was involved in a street race with Rebecca Grossman, when Grossman’s vehicle hit and killed two boys on a pedestrian crossing while walking with their parents on September 29.
The two cars were reportedly driving at excessive speeds when Grossman hit the two boys, one of whom died on the spot. Grossman reportedly drove another quarter of a mile in her car before her engine stopped.
The incident, which took place in Westlake Villiage, led to Grossman being charged with two felonies on December 30: murder and vehicle manslaughter. She was also charged with a felony count of hit and run driving that resulted in death.
57-year-old Grossman could face up to 34 years in prison if convicted.
Erickson was a 15-year MLB veteran and was part of the Twins’ 1991 World Series Championship team. Erickson led the American League with 20 wins that season, finishing second to Roger Clemens in the AL Cy Young Award voting.
In six seasons with the Twins, Erickson went 61-60 with a 4.22 ERA.
