Health Secretary Carlos Mellado announced on Friday the appointment of Carlos Rodríguez Mateo as the new head of the Administration for Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services (ASSMCA).
Rodríguez Mateo was rejected by the citizens when he aspired to a new term in the last four years as senator by accumulation. He finished sixteenth out of 17 candidates, according to the results of the State Electoral Commission.
“The governor of Puerto Rico has recommended that Dr. Rodríguez Mateo lead the ASSMCA. Rodríguez Mateo holds a PhD and a master’s degree in public health, strategic governance, public administration and political management and decision-making. Moreover, as a senator, he has studied and legislated initiatives to address issues related to ASSMCA, such as the issue of suicides, the high rate of methadone use and drug abuse, “Mellado said in written statements.
Rodríguez Mateo was also mayor of Salinas and set up primary care centers with other doctors. WITH–Sure.
ASSMCA is an office attached to the Department of Health created by Law 67 of August 7, 1993 and is responsible for programs and services related to mental health, drug addiction and alcoholism.
“We wish Dr. Rodríguez Mateo success and together we will ensure compliance with the public policy provided in Law 67 for the prevention, care, mitigation and solution of mental health problems, addiction or dependence on narcotics, stimulants and depressants, including alcohol,” the secretary concluded. .
