Former Rams DC Brandon Staley has been hired as the new Chargers head coach

Speaking of the rapid movement of the ladder. Brandon Staley has coached the NFL for just four seasons and coordinated for just one season. Now, he has been hired as the Chargers’ next head coach, according to the NFL Network.

At just 38, Staley was a defensive coordinator at John Carroll University’s Third Division in Ohio in 2016. From there, he was hired to coach the Chicago Bears. He spent two years in this position before being hired as a line coach with the Broncos. Just one season in that job brought him a DC job in LA with the Rams.

Staley took over, with the Rams replacing the legendary defensive spirit, Wade Philips. And he coached the Rams defense from a top 15 drive in 2019 to the best in the NFL in both allowed points and allowed yards in 2020.

The Rams would win their Wild Card game with the Seahawks, but lost Saturday to the Packers, making Staley available and he was immediately brought back for a second interview and hired as the new Chargers head coach, taking over for Anthony Lynn who was fired after a second consecutive losing season.
