Former MLB pitcher Scott Erickson has been charged in connection with the September 29 shooting

LOS ANGELES – Former major league baseball pitcher Scott Erickson has been charged with reckless driving in connection with a Southern California hit-and-run that killed two boys last year.

The Los Angeles prosecutor’s office said Erickson, 52, was charged Wednesday with reckless driving.

Investigators told KABC-TV he was running with Rebecca Grossman on Sept. 29, moments before she hit and killed 11-year-old Mark Iskander and her brother Jacob. The 8-year-old was crossing the street in Westlake Village, a suburb 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

The boys were crossing the street in a marked passage with their parents.

Prosecutors said Grossman continued to drive, eventually stopping about a mile from the crash site.

Grossman, 57, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, manslaughter with gross negligence and driving a coup and driving that resulted in death. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 34 years for life imprisonment.

Grossman, a philanthropist whose Grossman Burn Foundation supports burn survivors, is on $ 2 million bail.

Erickson is scheduled to be tried on March 16. A call to a number listed for him went unanswered.

Erickson played mostly from 1991 to 2006, including the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins and seven seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.
