NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Saints have released starting quarterback Janoris Jenkins in another list of actions designed to help the club reach the $ 182.5 million NFL salary limit this season for the 2021 season.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis announced Jenkins’ release on Thursday, a day after New Orleans informed receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defender Kwon Alexander that they would be cut.
Jenkins started all 13 games he played in 2020, tying for the big team in three interceptions. He made 54 solo or assisted approaches and was credited with 12 defended passes.
Jenkins ‘reduction will reduce New Orleans’ salary cap by about $ 7 million. The Saints still had to cut about $ 25 million in salaries by the start of the league’s new year on Wednesday.
Jenkins, who started and played in 53 games for the Giants between 2016-19, had 12 interceptions and two touchdowns during his time with the Big Blue. He has 26 interceptions and eight career touchdowns.
