Ford’s next V8 Mustang could be the last. Better to be special.

Giugiaro Mustang

Ford did not present (and will not) the next Mustang before it is good and ready, so we need a substitute image for a theoretical Mustang Good in the modern era. What could be better than the 2006 Mustang by Giugiaro concept? It’s still so good.

As the age of the electric car begins, there are plenty of reasons to believe that a V8 engine Ford Mustang it may not take long for this world. Ford has announced that it will only offer electric vehicles in Europe by 2030 it is worth asking whether a V8 Mustang will survive after this date.

All we know for now is that an EV Mustang should be ready for sale by 2030 if Ford wants to continue selling Mustangs in Europe (and stick to today’s commitment). It may not seem very convincing, but you may be surprised to find out how much Ford Europe’s success considers the current Mustang. Reintroduced to Europe only in 2015, Ford now calls it “the best-selling sports cups in the world.” Does that mean it’s a branded or breaking product for Ford? Probably not. But it is another reason to imagine that the car manufacturer will have to seriously consider building an electric Mustang in the form of the current car.

Of course, Ford could continue to sell new generations of V8 Mustangs in other markets such as the US – along with an EV version that will be delivered in Europe after 2030 or at any time. In a way, do that now with Mach-E. But I think all of this gives us some hard programming points to work with when we imagine what to expect from the next generation Mustang – which is again, potentially the last to offer a V8.

If we assume that Ford will introduce a fully electric Ford Mustang sports car by 2030, it will leave enough of a gap between now and then for what I call a lame duck generation. I would anticipate the next generation Mustang it will be an easy upgrade of the current platform and will obviously continue to offer the V8 and manual transmission that enthusiasts require. But how much attention could this car get when Ford’s engineering teams work hard on the next generation of electric cars? How big will the budget be to make it feel like a new car compared to the current generation?

These could be important questions, because if this is the last generation that has a V8 engine, people will want it to be damn good.

Of course, the current Mustang is incredible. Provides one of the best performance proposals in the world, is available at almost any price point, with half a dozen engine options, all of which seem to be able to carry the Mustang’s legacy very well. But will it be the next generation? Even if it’s just an easy upgrade, a stop-gap for the EV car? Will it be just a series of adjusted special editions? Or will Ford bring out the V8 with something we will never forget?

My hope is that Ford will save some special “final days of V8 cars” after the introduction of the EV Mustang sports car – at The end from the next generation, not this one. Then the argument for selling a V8 sports car becomes even harder to do and Ford has to fight to keep the model in countries like the US while it dies in Europe and elsewhere.

But we’re not there yet and I don’t want to get preoccupied with what’s next before we need it, at least not in the specific case of the Mustang. Right now, this is potentially the last chance for Ford to sit down and deliver its “wildest” combustion Mustang. I want to imagine that it is done with the same level of dedication that brought us the latest Ford GT, with secret meetings in the basements and pressure to build something that will cement the Ford legacy in motor sports.

Yes, Take those old plans to take the Mustang to Le Mans and actually goes with it. The next decade has the potential to be a frenzy of fulfilling the wishes of cutting-edge enthusiasts, and the reintroduction of GT and Bronco has proven that Ford can truly achieve these things. Pay the same attention to the Mustang.

We don’t know yet about the next generation Mustang and no future EV version. But, of course, a new Mustang is coming and I think it’s worth drawing attention to what could be something very interesting – probably the final shape of the V8 Mustang – while there is still time.
